Dermal Facial Fillers in Fairfield County

Serving patients in Norwalk and Stratford, CT

It’s a common misconception that the only way to achieve smoother, firmer skin as well as plumper lips and more attractive facial contours is through plastic surgery. Injectable products such as Botox and dermal fillers provide many of the same benefits of surgical procedures (e.g., facelift, brow lift) without the investment or downtime.

At SkinCare Physicians of Fairfield County, we offer injectable treatment with Botox, Juvederm, Restylane and Perlane at our Stratford and Norwalk locations. We will assess your personal skin care needs and recommend the product(s) that will provide the results you are looking for.

Restylane is a hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler that fills in facial wrinkles and lines. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance; it is found in the soft connective tissues and fluid surrounding your eyes. Therefore, it is very compatible with the human body and does not present the risk of adverse reaction.

Once injected into the treatment area, the hyaluronic acid in Restylane has a hydrating and “cushioning” effect. It adds fullness and volume to areas of the skin that need it, and corrects moderate to severe wrinkles and folds. Restylane is commonly used around the nose and mouth. It may be injected into the laugh lines, nasolabial folds (lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth) and marionette lines (lines from the corners of the mouth to the jawline).

Restylane can also be used to enhance the lips.

Juvederm is another type of dermal filler that supplements the body’s natural supply of hyaluronic acid to improve skin elasticity. Like Restylane, it is good for providing support to the facial structures and hydrating the skin. Juvederm can be used to fill in lines and wrinkles and plump the lips. It’s most often used on the smile lines, marionette lines and vertical lines around the lips.

Perlane is also a hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler in the same family as Restylane products. Perlane is effective on the nasolabial folds and on other areas of the skin that need volume and fullness. Perlane has different-sized particles than Restylane, and is injected at different depths. Compared to Restylane, it’s a better choice for severe facial wrinkles that require deeper injection.

Botox is a different class of products than Restylane, Juvederm and Perlane. It is a purified form of botulinum toxin that treats lines and wrinkles around the eye area (e.g., frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead furrows). When injected, Botox blocks the muscular nerve signals, which prevents the muscles from contracting and causing facial wrinkles. Regular Botox injections will diminish facial wrinkles that occur from smiling, frowning, squinting and chewing. Botox may also be used to smooth skin bands on the neck.

What Can I Expect During Botox/Filler Treatment?

Treatment with Botox or one of our dermal fillers is quick, convenient and minimally invasive. The injections should not take more than 15 to 20 minutes.

We will mark strategic points around your face to help guide us as we administer the injections. Before starting the injections, we will cleanse the treatment area and may give you a topical anesthetic if needed. Then, we will inject the product into the treatment area with a very fine needle. The number of injections that you will need depends on several factors, including the size of the treatment area and the severity of your wrinkles. As a point of reference, crow’s feet usually require fewer injections than furrows above the brow.
